Controlling the SEAS™ Series
In soccer games there are many things that young players cannot directly control - the referee's decisions, every bounce of the ball, their opponents, the weather, the field conditions, and ultimately, the final score/result. If players focus on these out-of-their-control aspects, they set themselves up for failure. Repeated failure in anything kills passion, an essential ingredient for long-term success in any endeavor.
It is no secret that winning is the underlying expectation of any competitive event. Children must be made aware they have control over striving to win and trying their best, but may have little or no control over the actual outcome of a competitive event. Helping children place their sport in the proper perspective and assisting them in setting realistic goals is empowering and allows them to have more control over their sport experience.
Coaches, award your young athletes for taking control of the things they CAN control and they will be CHAMPIONS regardless of any game's final scoreboard result.
